Tea exports increase in April
Sri Lanka monthly tea exports in April recorded 16.38 M/Kgs showing an increase of 0.21 M/Kgs against the same period of 2023.

Tea in bulk together with instant and green tea have shown improvement, whilst tea packets and tea bags have recorded a decline in comparison with the corresponding month of the previous year. Approximate F.O.B value in USD terms records an increase of USD 0.08, whilst in Sri Lankan terms records a decline of Rs.111.17 against 2023.

Cumulative exports recorded 78.70 M/Kgs which is an increase of 8.45 M/Kgs said Forbes & Walker Research.

Cumulative F.O.B Value reaches Rs. 1,772.36 (USD 5.76), showing a Rs. 223.93 which is a decrease against the corresponding year-to-date period of 2023. Importantly, in USD terms values have more or less been maintained.

Iraq maintains top position amongst leading importer countries of Ceylon Tea for thecumulative period of 2024 with Iran recording significant gains. U.A.E. (8.49 M/Kgs) followed by Russia (8.27 M/Kgs) continue to maintain their positions at 2ndand 3rd place respectively, surpassing Türkiye that has seen a 39% decline against the corresponding period of the previous year.

Iran has gained 198% YoY and moved up to 5th position from the 15th position held in 2023.

Other notable importer countries are China, Saudi Arabia followed by Azerbaijan, Germany and Chile.
